TCU Choral Ensembles

The TCU Choral Division offers five ensembles for students—Concert Chorale, University Singers, Women’s Choir, Frog Corps, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble—all of which are open to and include students of varied majors from across the campus.

Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Chrisopher Aspaas, is an auditioned mixed ensemble of fifty to sixty singers whose mission is to represent the university with the finest of choral singing. Repertoire is varied and extensive and includes choral/orchestral and chamber masterworks as well as a cappella and keyboard accompanied literature from all stylistic eras. Performances occur regularly on campus, on tours around the state, and with orchestras such as the Fort Worth Symphony. Rehearsals are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4 to 5:20 PM.

University Singers, under the direction of Dr. Sheri Neill, is an auditioned mixed ensemble of thirty to forty singers whose main purpose is to serve as the music education chorus at the university. All music education students sing in the ensemble, repertoire and rehearsal techniques are designed to assist future choral educators, the chorus sings for graduate conducting recitals, and short tours are taken to schools for recruitment purposes. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 AM to 12:30 PM

Women’s Chorus, under the supervision of Dr. Christopher Aspaas and an advanced doctoral student, is a non-auditioned ensemble for women who desire to augment their education at TCU with a positive and enriching choral experience. Repertoire, generally a cappella or with keyboard accompaniment, includes accessible and engaging music from a variety of contemporary styles. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 2:50 PM.

Frog Corps, under the direction of Mr. Brad White, is a non-auditioned male ensemble that serves as a spirit group for the university campus. Performances include traditional concerts with other university ensembles, appearances at athletic events, and presentations at university and community social occasions. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 PM.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Purple, White, and Blues, under the direction of Dr. Amy Stewart, is a select, small auditioned ensemble that specializes in the vocal jazz idiom. Performances are often with the university jazz band or with a combo of instruments and are also often at social functions across the university campus. Rehearsals are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 to 1 PM.
