Kristen Queen is praised for her masterful teaching, commanding stage presence, and energetic performance as both a flutist and yoga instructor. She is an active clinician and performer, receiving high praise from some of the world’s leading professional musicians. She is the recipient of awards for both musical and academic achievements, including the TCU Provost’s Academic Affairs Outstanding Staff Award.

Ms. Queen is a YogaFit© certified instructor and developer/instructor of the TCU course, “Yoga for Musicians.” She has presented at conferences and workshops nationally and internationally, including recently at the Guildhall School’s Reflective Conservatoire Conference in London and the Healthy Approaches in the Training of Performing Artists at Chapman University in California, among others.

Ms. Queen is an active clinician and performer on flute including recently serving Dallas Music Teachers Association Symphonic Festival, Texas Flute Society Flute Festival, TCU Summer Band Camp, Richardson ISD Chamber Music Festival, TCU Chamber Music Roundup Academy, Five B’s Festival of Music and Ideas in Oklahoma, TCU Faculty Recital Series, along with masterclass and recital appearances at several North Texas and Oklahoma schools and churches. An avid collaborator, Ms. Queen is a member of the Ataraxia Duo. The group draws its name from the Greek term meaning “hearty tranquility with continual freedom from distress and worry.” With primary professions in the fields of musicology and arts administration respectively, Will Gibbons (piano) and Ms. Queen (flute) enjoy the freedom, tranquility, and trust found in remaining active performers on their primary instruments, particularly in a chamber music setting. Programming primarily 20th- and 21st-century American works, the Ataraxia Duo aims to also foster and perform new compositions for flute and piano duo from composers across the country.

She completed her Master of Music degree at Northwestern University and Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Queen is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership at TCU.
