MATTHEW BRIGGS

Instructor in Theory/Composition

Matthew Briggs is currently an Adjunct Professor of Music at Texas Christian University and Music Theory Instructor at Southwestern Adventist University. He is a graduate of Texas Christian University with a Masters of Music in Composition, and will soon continue his education at the doctoral level. At TCU he studied with Dr. Blaise Ferrandino, Dr. Till Meyn, and Dr. Martin Blessinger. Matthew has enjoyed performances of his works around the TCU campus, the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, and the United States. He is a member of Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI), Pi Kappa Lambda (Music Honor Society), and Delta Phi Alpha (German Honor Society).

Matthew began playing piano at the age of six, and it still remains a large part of his life; since then he has also picked up guitar, trumpet, and voice (including Tuvan throat singing), as well as other instruments with varying degrees of proficiency. His compositional style is constantly evolving as he matures and learns, although his main creative voice revolves around the manipulation of scales (or pitch collections) and pitch centers. He has recently been utilizing quarter-tones and other exciting techniques. Some other interests include fishing, collecting old books, and language study. For more information, visit: mhbriggs.com
