Instructor in Musicology

Won Yong Lee, a Korean-born American pianist began her music studies at the age of 13 under the tutelage of pianists Inés Gomez Carrillo and Susana Kasakoff in the Juan José Castro Conservatory (Buenos Aires, Argentina), where she received her degree of Profesorado de Piano. In the early years of her career, Dr. Lee received the First prize in the Armenian Cultural Association Competition, which resulted in many engagements in the surrounding cities, including her debut with Tres de Febrero Symphonic Orchestra.

Dr. Lee continued her study at the Eastman School of Music (MM and DMA) with Professors Thomas Schumacher, Anne Koscielny and Natalya Antonova. During her studies at Eastman, she received numerous scholarships (Avis and Davis Vaughn, Edith Babcok, among others) and several nominations for piano teaching excellence. During 2008 through 2011, Dr. Lee received Lay and Mattie Powell Piano Scholarship and Spitler piano Scholarship to continue her development as an artist in Texas Christian University with Professor Harold Martina.

In demand as a teacher and adjudicator, Dr. Lee has taught at Eastman School of Music, Eastman Community Music School, Hochstein School of Music and Dance (Rochester, NY), Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Waxahachie, TX), National University of Costa Rica, New England Music Camp in Maine, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan and Music Academy of Moulin D’Ande in France. She has also adjudicated numerous competitions including New York State MTNA Competition, Kentucky State MTNA Piano Festival Competition, and Greater Rochester Music Teacher Association in New York.

As a performer, Dr. Lee has been performing actively as a solo and chamber musician throughout the Unites States, Europe, and South and Central America. Currently, she is the Artistic Director of Costa Rica Temporada Internacional de Piano and has recently joined to TCU School of Music as adjunct faculty.
